Benjie Mallari offers new scenes from a post-war Manila in "Time Passing". Illustrating locals in their best Sunday garb as well as their common means of transportation recapitulates the life our forefathers have enjoyed. This quiet elegance conveyed on canvas affords viewers a similar luxury of watching people passing time as they would have in a distant past.
Choosing to look to the past invites reflection of how we, at the present time, let our time pass. The artist puts it his perspective "Time passed, time is always passing and time will pass. But we’re still here."
The show's title comes from a namesake guitar instrumental piece composed by David Foster and performed by Lee Ritenour. "It is also reminiscent of what Marcus Aurelius said that "Time is a sort of a river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away.” the artist says.
The former art director and cartoonist is presently set on pursuing painting as his new channel of art. The images from this collection sets the artist's hallmark style that is apparent from his show earlier this year titled "When Life Was Simple."
