Prägnanz

“Prägnanz: The Best of Galerie Raphael” on view at U.P. Town Center

Show runs February 8 to 20

Galerie Raphael and Galerie Joaquin U.P. Town Center is pleased to announce a group exhibition featuring works by a diverse selection of established artists, all of whom create artworks configured from multiple parts, sequences, and series.

Though evidently diverse in subject matter, the works for “Prägnanz” are united by each artist’s careful composition of individual elements in order to build an essential whole, illustrating its literal translation, “good figure”. The title of the exhibition refers to the Gestalt theory and its familiar statement: "the whole is greater or different than the sum of its parts."

While specific artworks may have certain implications on their own, its conjunction with other pieces transforms the viewer's perception of their significance. Gestalt psychology studies the viewer's inherent tendency to visualize patterns, and to recognize separate parts as pieces of a greater whole. It is in this subliminal sense of harmony that the possibilities of intent lie. The masterful works featured in this exhibition effectively utilize expression, rhythm, and pattern to produce multifaceted yet united compositions.

The exhibition's grasp of a diversity of subjects and materials explores the ways in which the perception of the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. The works by Aldrino Abes, Vic Bachoco, Caress Banson, Jovan Benito, Marco Coching, Gary Custodio, Patrick Esmao, Faico, James Gabito, Patricia Gan, Raul Lebajo, Ronnie Lim, April Lopez, Rafaelle Louise, Art Lozano, Ram Mallari, Milmar Onal, Marge Organo, Perfecto Palero, Averil Paras, Jax Pasimio, Michael Pastorizo, Richard Perez, Jun Rocha, Victor Secuya, Edwin Tres Reyes, Lala Tuason, Ryan Velasco, Ralph Villaluz, and Ombok Villamor explore the universe and its unity in the infinite diversity of elements. They represent multiplicity, defining juxtapositions between chaos and harmony, constant change and movement, each of its parts consisting the whole.

“Prägnanz: The Best of Galerie Raphael” will be on view from February 8 to 20, 2022 at Galerie Joaquin U.P. Town Center. The gallery is located at 2/F Phase 2 U.P.
