En Pointe

Ballet is a delicate art form. Precise and nuanced, it takes years of formal training to master the entire lexicon of ballet techniques. Ballet is also considered a feminine form of dance, and thus its practitioners are held up as shining examples of female grace and beauty.

Artist Jomar Delluba explores this idea in his latest show in Galerie Raphael in Serendra. Called "En Pointe," the title recalls the stance of ballet dancers as they ascend on their tip-toes. It is a elegant and mastered technique that defines what ballet is about. "En Pointe" opens on Thursday, February 5 at 6PM and will run until February 18.

Laguna-based artist Jomar Delluba is one of the most sought-after artists in the country today, with a waiting list of patrons eager to snap up his works. They recognize an artist who is thoroughly engaged in a practice that reflects upon the very nature of childhood and how we relate to the consequent imagery that it inevitably represents using a consistently fascinating, quirky, and highly-technical aesthetic style.

Jomar Delluba's practice is one of excruciating detail within a highly-developed technique. After a year of learning drafting technology in college, he started joining and winning drawing contests in his province of Laguna. It wasn't long before he started apprenticing under renowned surrealist Jerry Morada. Delluba has since gained numerous recognitions, which include him being named Juror's Choice at the GSIS Painting Competition. Delluba sees his art as an intensely personal experience. His works use metaphors to articulate the idea of everyday people in his characteristically-brilliant style.

Works in "En Pointe" show a new side to the artist, demonstrating his affinity with dynamism and movement and combining it with a light-hearted aesthetic. His ballet dancers are epitomes of grace, and are lovely subjects that are portrayed affectionately by the artist.
