Colors and Introspection

“Colors and Introspections” on view at Galerie Raphael U.P. Town Center

Show runs April 27 to May 8

A color has many facets; one color can be made to appear different depending on the context, while different colors can be made to appear the same. “Colors and Introspections” is an examination of the ways artists choose colors that mirror their own emotions and characteristics, how this effect cognitively operates within each individual, and the spectators’ reaction to them. The exhibit is also an exploration on the concept of relativity, how colors – and people— interact with one another and how they adapt based on the adjacent surroundings, evoking different sensory experiences.

“Colors and Introspections” aims to build on intricate theories that associate palettes with types of people and emotions. The works examine their combinatory effect, together with shape, material, and its importance in guiding the viewers’ experience. They are the output of the foregrounding interrelations between the artists and their chosen palette that depict this introspection.

From painting to sculptural work, the exhibit showcases a spectrum of efforts that play with varying perceptions and perspectives. Each of them, in their unique way, contributes to the long pursuit of understanding the psychology of color and each artist’s execution of this notion. It serves as an illustrative component in the creative and productive process that portray the diversity of each individual’s journeys and experiences in profound ways.

“Colors and Introspections” featuring works by Joseph Albao, Barbara Angeles, RV Basco, Jovan Benito, Jo Balbarona, Jerry Morada, Jax Pasimio, Richard Perez, Ted Penaflor, and Ryan Velasco, will be on view from April 27 to May 8, 2022.
