The Rule of Three

“The Rule of Three” (Symbolic Meanings and Divine Connections)runs at Galerie Raphael U.P. Town Center from July 21 to July 31, 2024

As a concept, The Rule of Three states that “any ideas, thoughts, events, characters or sentences that are presented in threes are more effective and memorable.” Needless to say, the coming together of three artists with distinct visual styles and artistic identities is a feast for the eyes. Viewers will no doubt be inexplicably drawn to explore and experience a sensory symphony through the art works of Resty Lopez, Ann Baldemor Moneda and Joan Palero.

The intricacies in Resty’s multi-hued feathers signify the artist’s own yearning for ascension and spiritual enlightenment. He zeroes in on the human need for freedom and letting go of physical attachments. Ann Baldemor Moneda’s abstracted flora on the other hand, celebrates our connection to the natural world. Her delicate rendering of her chosen subject subtly communicates the flowers’ hidden language - its sentiments and intentions - in her usage of colors and floral variations. Joan Palero’s fluid, organic forms, often resembling delicate petals and feathers remind us of the constant ebb and flow of emotions and experiences. Her choice of subject also is reflective of her continuous embrace of growth and change while staying grounded to her roots.

All three artists similarly explore hidden meanings and delve into finding spiritual links through the works culled for this exhibit. Each has immersed themselves in finding a connection with their chosen subjects, transcending the tangibility of it and discovering the complexity in the aspects not outwardly visible to the viewer. An artist initially from Bolinao Pangasinan, Resty’s move to Baguio in 2000 to try to continue his tertiary education allowed him to develop his artistic technique through projects and contests. He experimented with different mediums, forms and styles and has honed his craft in both paintings and sculptures. He has received various awards and recognitions and has participated in several group exhibits and competitions in both the local and national levels.

Painter and sculptor Ann Baldemor Moneda hails from Paete, Laguna. Granddaughter of artist Manuel Baldemor, Ann Baldemor Moneda has participated in various group exhibitions in Paete and was a 2nd placer for a wall painting competition in the same locale. She has alsoparticipated in various group exhibits of the Galerie Joaquin Group and has had one-man shows with various units of the GJ Group of Galleries.

Joan Palero is a self-taught emerging visual artist based in Morong, Rizal. Known for creating abstract pieces characterized by vivid color palettes, dynamic brushstrokes and intricate textures, she draws inspiration from nature, human emotions and the interplay of light and shadow. She has participated in local art festivals and exhibits and gallery group shows.
