Nostalgia Trip

Our yearning to look back at the past allows us to embrace the comforting familiarity of our childhood memories. Add to that the need to unwind and take a break from the stresses of day to day living in a fast paced world of social media and technological overload, a recollection of eras gone by may oftentimes be a welcome respite.

Artist Carlo Ongchangco’s narrative pieces delve into vintage collectibles and toys and references from older eras reminiscent of our childhoods. His characters’ dreams and aspirations are reflective of their innocence as they go through day to day activities and playful adventures. His whimsical signature style contribute to the compelling narratives that allow the viewers to go on that journey with or even as one of Ongchangco’s characters.

Educated in the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design, Carlo Ongchangco consistently defies being boxed into a specific category. His works borrow from the visual language of children’s book illustration, graphic design, cartoon and Japanese pop art. With numerous group and solo exhibits both local and abroad, this cosmopolitan artist maintains the loyal following from a particular niche of collectors. Ongchangco is a member of the prestigious Saturday Group of the Philippine Artists Guild, the oldest art collective in the Philippines that has produced several National Artists for the Visual Arts. He closes 2024 with this solo exhibition following “Icons” which ran last June at Galerie Joaquin Podium.
